Troop Elections in September

We will be pushing elections to September 12th which seems to be available for most Scouts.

Open Positions

3 - Senior Patrol Leader/Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders

4 - Patrol Leaders

2 - Quartermasters

To run for a leadership position please follow the link below and fill out the basic questions. Submissions will automatically email the Scout Master and the PLC Coordinator.

Election Leadership Request Form

Think about the following questions prior to clicking on the link

  1. What leadership position are you looking to run to be elected or appointed for?
  2. What will you get out of being a leader?
  3. What will the Troop get out of you being a leader?

Running the troop with more emphasis on the patrol method this year has triggered several changes to our structure.  There are many more positions within the organization to achieve rank advancement then in the past which are appointed by the PLC Leadership.  Once the Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders and the Patrol Leaders have been elected they will be taking requests for appointed positions.  Please see the link below for detailed descriptions of each position.

Merit Badge Opportunities in DuPage County

Thanks to T41 volunteer parent Colleen Ahern (email Mrs. Ahern), she would like to spread the word to other parents and scouts that the below links describe many opportunities for your scouts to participate in merit badges within DuPage county, Bass Pro Shops and more.  Please read the below for details.  There are a couple scouts already registered for programs at Morton Arboretum, so it would be great to get a few to join and/or go together.

Eagle Project – Service Hours – 7/29  - Jack A.

Hi scouts. My name is Jack Andringa, and I am currently working on my Eagle project. I am organizing a benefit concert for the PADS organization. The concert will occur this weekend on Saturday, July 29th at 6 p.m. at St. Petronille Church in the Parish Life Center

I am in need of volunteers to be greeters, serve refreshment’s, and work backstage at the concert. All volunteers will need to arrive at 5 p.m, an hour before the concert begins. If you are interested in helping out, please send me an email at jandringa123@gmail.com.

Not only will you be doing me a great service by helping with my project, but you will also receive service hours, which are essential for rank advancement. Also, anyone who picked up a bag from me at the last troop meeting can drop it off at the concert. Please invite your families and friends to the concert. You can send the attached flyer to anyone who is interested in attending. Thanks for your help!

Wisconsin River Canoe Trip 8/18 – 8/20

Fri 8/18 - Sun 8/20

Join Troop 41 for a weekend of paddling the Wisconsin River. We will stay at a campground Friday night, departing on the water Sat morning.  Paddle all day Sat and camp on the river Sat night.  Return to base Sun morning to pack up and drive home.

This is an awesome trip, but also one of the more demanding ones physically, mentally, and scout skills-wise.  Therefore your scout must meet the following requirements to go on this trip:

Mandatory requirements:

  • Classified as a "swimmer" according to BSA swim test.  Must have passed swimmer test at Owasippe or Troop swim test.
  • Minimum rank of Tenderfoot or higher

Preferred requirements: (not mandatory but highly recommended)

  • Completed at least one of Swimming, Canoeing, Kayaking, or Rowing merit badges

Departure: Meet Friday at 5:30 pm for 6:00 pm departure.  Meet at Old Dominick's parking lot (Baker Hill shopping Center, 800 Roosevelt Rd.).

Arrival back home: Estimated 2 pm at Old Dominick's parking lot.  We will call when in route with updated ETA.

Packing: No trailer on this trip.  Scouts will need to pack in an efficient manner, as gear needs to fit in a canoe and be hauled by the scout (+ troop gear) to and from canoes.  All packing must be 100% waterproof.  Dry bags are the best, but multiple garbage bags will also work (inside a backpack or duffel bag,).  Garbage bags will only work if doubled or tripled and sealed tightly (e.g. with zip ties).

Meals: will be provided by Troop.  No cooking this trip.  MREs for a special treat for Sat dinner.

Owasippe Tent Cleaning and Return

Any scout that took home a tent from Owasippe should return it at this Tuesday’s troop meeting.  It is imperative that the tents have been setup to be dried and cleaned.   Please make sure your scout takes the time to do this, as they will be inspected at the meeting and sent back to your scout if it is found to be dirty or damp.  Thanks for your understanding.

New Troop Website is available

Troop 41 has a new and improved website http://www.t41glenellyn.org/

Our tag team volunteer couple of Dave and Yvonne Houghtaling are working very hard to create a new and exciting website.  Please note that it is in its infancy stages right now, but we do have summer camp information available on it.  The other tab available right now is Troop News.  Thank you IT department for getting this site up and running!

Missing scout book

Scouts, please check your backpacks to verify if you have the correct scout book.  Someone left a book at a meeting last month and I have it.  Another scout who thought it was his confirmed it is not.  So, we are hoping somebody picked up the incorrect book.   Please check and notify Mr. Ruggiero (the.ruggieros1@gmail.com).  Also, this would not be a problem IF you added your NAME to the book.   Please put your name on all your scout possessions.

The Spring Court of Honor will be held at the Troop Meeting tomorrow, Tuesday April 25th at 7:45 p.m. All scouts and parents are encouraged to attend. Scouts will be recognized for their service and achievements, and the leaders will provide updates on the Troop's events and plans. Please bring a dessert to share. Scouts should wear their Class A uniforms. A "hand me down" table will be set up. Scouts who have outgrown uniforms, Class Bs, Class Cs, hiking boots, hoodies, and other Troop or camping gear are encouraged to bring it and put it on the table. The PLC should plan to arrive at 7 p.m. to help with set up and stay 15 minutes after the meeting to help with take down.

Pancake Breakfast - Important Information– Mr. Krueger

Troop 41’s Annual Pancake Breakfast fundraiser is less than a week away. Please get out and sell! Each scout is required to sell at least $100 worth of tickets to the event. To add some incentive, the first place seller will receive a $75 gift card. Second place receives a $50 gift card. And third place gets a $25 gift card. Remember, the funds raised not only go to the Troop but a portion of the money you raise will go into your scout account.

All PLC members and first year scouts are required to attend set-up Friday, April 28th evening at 6:45 in Pilgrim Hall.

Packets from all scouts can be dropped off Friday evening in Pilgrim Hall or when they arrive for their shift duty on Saturday.

Shift assignments will be handed out at the Court of Honor meeting on Tuesday, April 25th. There will be two shifts on Saturday. First shift is 7-9:30am. Second shift is 9:15-11:45am.

We are still looking for adult volunteers. Please email Kraig Krueger at kraigkrueger1@gmail.com to sign-up. (it’s the easiest volunteering you’ll ever do!)
