Fall Court of Honor – Sunday Sept 29th 3 – 5 p.m.

The Fall Court of Honor is coming up on Sunday September 29th from 3-5 p.m. at First Congregational Church – in the Sanctuary. All scouts and parents are encouraged to attend.  Scouts will be recognized for their service and achievements, and the leaders will update everyone on the Troop’s events and plans. It’s a great way to support the boys, and see all Troop 41 has to offer.  Dinner will be provided by Barone’s.

Please bring a dessert to share for the sweet table. Scouts should wear their Class A uniforms.  The PLC should plan to arrive at 2:30 p.m. to help with set up and stay a little after to help with take down.

As in years past, a “hand me down table” will be set up. Scouts who have outgrown uniforms, Class Bs, Class Cs, hiking boots, hoodies and other Troop and camping gear are encouraged to bring it and put it on the table. Younger scouts will benefit from your generosity!  Please be sure all gear is clean and gently used.

Please RSVP to Michelle Andringa by Monday September 23rd.

JDRF – Opening Flag Ceremony – Oct.6, 8:30am – Mr. Ruggiero

As with the past couple years, we are looking for Color Guard volunteers to perform opening flag ceremony for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation One Walk which is Sunday, October 6, at 8:30am at St. James Farm in Warrenville.  Looking for 6 scouts to perform the opening flag ceremony at this year’s JDRF One Walk before a large crowd.  Scouts will perform flag ceremony before the One Walk event starts.  We will only run the flag ceremony and depart soon after the walk begins.  For details contact Mr. Ruggiero.

More Service Opportunity – First United Methodist Rummage Sale

Jason Tews, the lay leader at First United Methodist Church GE is asking our troop to assist with Troop 45 in their rummage sale this year.

In short, it’s all about helping youth experience the joy of serving, similar to Feed My Starving Children but local in the community for the community. The scouts typically do not take money but the other groups participating share in the proceeds and designate how to use the funds, they can keep them for their own groups use or re-donate (which both sets of youth did last time). Last years results:

  • Raised $7,302.81 (after expenses) between two individual sales
  • Distributing the proceeds to five organizations – First United Methodist Church General Fund and Trustees, Children’s Resource Center – Designated Charity of GWHS Choir, Pediatric Cancer – Designated Charity of GWHS Theatre, ASP & PATH – Designated Charities of the Rees family
  • Helping 104 total volunteers experience the joy of serving the community

There are several ways the Scouts could help based on what you feel would be best:

–        Yard sign in families’ yards

–        Hand out brochures door to door (9/14 – 9/22)

–        Hang posters in local businesses (9/14-9/22)

–        Sort goods on weeknights – Monday through Thursday 3-8 PM (9/30-10/3)

This is a mix of unloading peoples cars and carrying items into the Church and sorting goods on tables

All of the above is helpful, youth could mix up how they serve or they can all do the same task. If you wanted to you could have them handout the flyer along with a Boy Scout piece; ie popcorn sales.  For more details please contact Jason Tews <jtews@fuseteam.com>
